How Homeowner Information Is Shared with Trade Businesses
When a Homeowner submits a Job Request, we use the information provided to identify relevant Trade Businesses that may be suitable for the opportunity.
Before purchase, Trade Businesses that have been shortlisted for the Job Request can see a limited preview of the opportunity. This includes the type of work required, the full job description, any photographs provided and a partial postcode indicating the general location of the job. The Homeowner's name, full address, telephone number and other direct contact details are not provided at this stage.
If a shortlisted Trade Business chooses to purchase the Job Lead, we provide it with the Homeowner's name, telephone number and other contact details provided with the Job Request, the full job address and postcode, and the full details of the Job Request, including the description of the work and any photographs or other information submitted with the request.
No more than three Trade Businesses may purchase a particular Job Lead through Request A Quote.
When a receiving Trade Business uses the Homeowner's information for its own quotations, communications and any subsequent customer work, it acts as a separate controller of that information and is responsible for complying with applicable data protection legislation in relation to its use. Request A Quote remains responsible for its own collection, use and sharing of personal information.
Purchasing a Job Lead does not give a Trade Business permission to use a Homeowner's personal information for unrelated marketing.
Trade Business Profiles
Information supplied by Trade Businesses may be used to create and operate Trade Business Profiles on Request A Quote.
Information intended to form part of a public Profile may be displayed to Homeowners or other visitors to the platform.
Trade Businesses should not include personal information in public Profile fields that they do not wish to make publicly available.
We may also use Trade Business information to determine whether a business is relevant to particular Job Requests, including the services offered and geographical areas covered.
Matching and Shortlisting
We use information about Job Requests and Trade Businesses to identify potentially relevant matches.
This may include factors such as:
-
type of trade or service required;
-
job location;
-
Trade Business service area;
-
services offered by the Trade Business;
-
account or Profile information; and
-
availability or other relevant platform information.
Matching or shortlisting does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of a Trade Business.
Where automated systems are used to assist with matching, they are used to help operate the platform and identify relevant opportunities.
Our Legal Bases for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal information.
We use personal information for the following purposes and on the following lawful bases:
- Managing Job Requests, matching Homeowners with relevant Trade Businesses and sharing details with Trade Businesses that purchase a Job Lead: we rely on contract, as this processing is necessary to provide the service requested by the Homeowner. Where we use information to identify and shortlist suitable Trade Businesses, we also rely on our legitimate interests in operating an effective service that connects Homeowners with relevant Trade Businesses.
- Running Trade Business accounts and Profiles, processing Credit purchases and maintaining Credit balances: where the Trade Business is an individual or sole trader, we rely on contract, as this processing is necessary to provide the services requested. Where an individual is acting on behalf of a company or other organisation, we rely on our legitimate interests in administering that organisation's account, providing access to our services and communicating with its authorised representatives.
- Customer support and complaint handling: we rely on contract where this is necessary to provide or administer our services, and on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries, resolving issues and maintaining an effective and reliable service where the processing is not strictly necessary for the performance of a contract.
- Account and Trade Business verification: we rely on our legitimate interests in verifying users and Trade Businesses, maintaining the integrity of the platform and reducing the risk of false or misleading accounts.
- Security and fraud prevention: we rely on our legitimate interests in protecting Request A Quote, its users and the platform from fraud, misuse, unauthorised access and other security threats.
- Financial, tax, accounting and other records that we are required to retain: we rely on legal obligation where processing is necessary to comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Service and transactional communications: we use contact information to send communications relating to your account, Job Requests, Job Leads, Credits, purchases and use of Request A Quote. We rely on contract where these communications are necessary to provide or administer the service you have requested.
- Marketing communications: we may use contact information to send marketing about Request A Quote, including relevant services, features, offers, news and updates. Where consent is required by law, we rely on consent. Where applicable law permits us to send marketing without prior consent, we rely on our legitimate interests in promoting and developing our services. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing will not prevent you from receiving essential service or transactional communications.
- Analytics and advertising: where analytics, advertising or similar technologies use non-essential cookies or tracking technologies, we rely on consent. Further information about the technologies we use, their purposes and the choices available to you is provided in our Cookie Policy.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider whether our interests are proportionate and whether your rights and interests override them.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw your consent at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.
Service and Transactional Communications
We send administrative messages needed to provide the service you have requested, such as account verification, security alerts, purchase confirmations and important updates about an existing Job Request or transaction.
Promotional messages are handled under our Marketing Communications section, even when they concern an existing account. Lead alerts and account reminders are classified according to their content and what you have requested; they are not automatically treated as essential service messages.
You can stop marketing emails using the unsubscribe link or by contacting [email protected]. This will not stop genuinely necessary administrative messages.
These service communications are separate from optional marketing communications.
Marketing Communications
Where permitted by law, we may contact you about Request A Quote services, features, offers or other relevant information.
Where consent is required, we will obtain it before sending marketing communications.
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by using the unsubscribe option provided in the communication or by contacting us.
Opting out of marketing does not prevent us from sending essential service or transactional communications relating to your account or use of Request A Quote.

As part of this service, we share the Job Request and contact information described in “How Homeowner Information Is Shared with Trade Businesses” with up to three shortlisted Trade Businesses so they can respond to the particular request.
Advertising and Analytics
We may use analytics and advertising technologies to understand how people use Request A Quote, measure the effectiveness of our marketing and improve our services.

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure.
These measures may include encryption, access controls, secure infrastructure, authentication measures and appropriate restrictions on access to personal information.
While we take reasonable steps to protect personal information, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including providing our services and satisfying legal, accounting, regulatory, fraud prevention and dispute resolution requirements.

- Complaints and disputes: we generally keep records relating to complaints and disputes for up to 6 years after the matter has been resolved.
- Technical and security information: we generally keep technical, security and access logs for up to 12 months, unless they need to be retained for longer to investigate fraud, misuse, a security incident or another legal matter.
Where information is needed for an unresolved complaint, legal claim, investigation or legal record-keeping requirement, we may retain the information necessary for that purpose for longer than the periods above where justified.
At the end of the applicable retention period, we will securely delete or anonymise personal information unless we have a lawful reason to retain it for longer.
