When things don't go to plan

If something hasn’t gone to plan, the best approach is to stay calm and deal with the issue step by step. Start by speaking directly with the tradesperson and clearly explaining your concerns - many problems can be resolved quickly through open communication.

If the issue continues, gather evidence such as photos, contracts, quotes, and written messages. Put your complaint in writing and allow a reasonable time for a response.

When an agreement can’t be reached, you may be able to use a trade association, mediation service, or consumer protection scheme to help resolve the dispute.

Taking a structured and professional approach gives you the best chance of reaching a fair outcome.
